Snowfall and long white winter!

The whole country is annoyed by the snow at present. Driving and public transport are disrupted quite badly, and it is in a way a shame that UK cannot afford to manage this well. Yes there is credit crunch, but this white-winter is something that was anticipated by everyone, so there should be a reasonable level of preparation. Uni's and school had to be closed for a couple of days last week due to grit shortage. UK is running out of Grit! What a disaster. No more snow loving. I would love to accept this weather if it was safe to drive or if it was safe to walk on the pavements. Well, at least the main roads stay clear, which is appreciatable. I do love the snow but I want my street cleared. I was expecting the snow to be melt by this weekend so that I could drive home but by the look of it, its gonna continue to snow and make my driving halted further. I am, at the moment, getting lifts from my friends to go to my attachments, which is good so far.

Hopefully, it stops snowing or they spread salt on all the streets that have not had yet! And I prefer the latter :)) Nevertheless, it feels the new year is pure and clean with the carpet of white. It was a nice experience watching the white-blanketed fields, little hills and frozen ponds out of the train window during the last weekend-travel to London.

PS: Wishing everyone a very Happy Pongal/Sankranti :) It has been many years since I last celebrated Pongal. Always stuck in Uni at this time. There is nothing compared to those pongal celebrations in places like India and Sri Lanka! Have a good day!

Updates

Hope the new year is treating you all well so far. I have started uni this week but it already feels like a long time. Teaching sessions for the last two days were cancelled, most annoyingly after getting to the hospital all the way from so'ton to winchester. It is snowing heavily in the south with lightening and driving is gonna be impossible tomorrow especially on the motorways. Even if the weather gets better, I am not taking the risk. Don't want to skid and hit, and no way I am ready to face a huge cost of repair. Above everything, a cough is bothering me for two days now. Not liking it a bit.

I had been to London Eye with friends to watch the fireworks on new year midnight. It was absolutely stunning although the fireworks were for only 10 mins. But I hated going through so much hassle to get back home. It took us almost 3 hours in the crowd to walk to the train station which would normally take only 5 mins. The amount of people who came was crazy! The police could have been much more organised, I guess. Waiting for 3 hours in an almost-not-moving queue to get into a station was driving everyone mad. Finally we got home around 4am. Despite the troubles, we had so much fun. :)

New year resolutions, ermm, thought I should be genuinely more selfish like every other human. Haha. It is true. One of the weakness' of mine is that I trust every one who is nice to me even if I know them for a very short time. Another resolution is to study much harder. Not sure if these are going out of the window in a few days. But to be honest, I am not sure if I am actually following my resolutions. LOL.

Welcome 2010

How bad I have not wished any of you happy new year. While at home, time seems to be flying faster, as usual when you are on holidays. Here is wishing every soul in this world A very happy New year.
Although I had not wished anyone on my blog, it was soooooooooo sweet of Priya (PJ) to type me a comment with wishes. That was so sweet and thoughtful of you dear. My special new year wishes for you :)

I wanted to write a little bit about how 2009 went and to have a review about the goods and bads. But I realise, rather than looking back, I just want to pray for myself and for the whole universe, to have a year with more happiness and peace, a year with more successes than failures and a year for everyone with no tears and more smiles. Wishing everyone again a happy new year.

Waiting

to get over this week for Christmas holiday. For me, its all about being home :)) but sadly the vacation is only for 2 weeks and there is quite a lot of work to do and sort out. Although its damn cold, I can't wait for the snow. I always happen miss the day when it snows massively and only get to see lighter snowing. Hoping to be at the right place this year.
It has started snowing slightly in Southampton and thinking about driving tomorrow to Winchester is leaving me with a little hesitation. I hope the weather won't be crazy tomorrow and until I go home this weekend. :)

End of Psych.

I remember how I used to blog about lots of things before. Rain, cold, snow, day outs etc but now it feels like I am getting nothing to write about.
I am done with Psychiatry. 6 weeks were gone with a whoosh. As far as I have seen, not many students are fascinated about psychiatry. Even though I am not so much attracted, it is in a way interesting. Anyway, no more psychosis or depression or mania for almost another year. A temporary full stop to psych now except for revising during exams.
I am moving on to Medicine block next week, and I must say my mind is still hanging on to psychiatry and I have to probably sit and go through the clinical examinations and history taking to get on the track for medicine. Again, it is in Winchester. Deary me, why do they wanna send me all over the places!!

I am signing off now. Off to London. Home.

- Waste of time! I don't understand why there are too many documentaries of the same sorts at the same time!!! Horror films of these days are disappointing. It was SUCH a waste! No more to say.

The Fourth Kind

Not sure whether to believe it or not. Abductions by aliens is nothing new to the Hollywood anyway. And thoughts about movies based around aliens have never stayed in my mind after about a couple of hours leaving the cinema. In fact, I am not a fan of UFO movies. But this one has left me with a lot of questions partially because they claimed that the movie was a documentary based on real events. I have read that there is no evidence of Dr Tyler's practice, nor of her registration in medical record after FBI's research. Ah well. All in all, I thought it was an interesting movie but not evidently sufficient or convincing enough that it is a documentary.
But, I did feel that fear for a couple of days though.

H E L L O =)

It has been more than 2 months since I've started this year and it feels like a very short time. I have done my Paeds, which was good. I was thinking that I was gonna play with children, spend time with them bla bla, but it was the normal hospital setting where there were under 16s instead of adults. And they are there because of a health problem so you don't really get to do anything other than taking history, examination etc. But interesting cases! I loved Portsmouth hospital though I had to travel everyday. I have no idea how 5 weeks flew by and I can't believe I am blogging about it after so long, though it doesn't feel so.

After my paeds, I had a week of GP placement, which was also good. Now on Mental health. Had a couple of weeks on Old age psychiatry and now doing Child mental health. Going okay-ish but there are constant assessments throughout the attachments. So almost every/every other week we get to face assessments. But I like the fact that this year is keeping me going rather than just sitting in lectures. So, a busy year this is. But I love this life. Love to live. Love coming across different people, different attitudes and learning from them. Trying to make the most out of each moment is a bliss.

Although I've been a bit busy, I am getting to go home much more often than before during the weekends. I guess it's partly because I ve got my car down here. Fuel cost is pushed aside when it comes to choose either ?spend money on fuel or ?some time to be at home. :p Yet, I can't wait for Christmas holidays. Shops are overflowing with decorations stuff, gifts, chocolates, lights etc etc. Winter is emerging...damn cold is here again.
